I’d like to know how a franchise insurance agency works in terms of:
- revenues (are the premiums collected given back to the insurance company, which invests them and gives back a commission to the franchise agency, or retained by the agency that gives a % of them to the insurance company?)
- investment (if the franchisee retains the premiums, does he also invest them and handle fund management? or does he simply retain them as liquid cash resources?)
- underwriting (who does it, the agency or the insurance company? in case a claim is legitimately filed, is it the agency or the insurance company to use its own resources to pay the reimbursement to the insured?)
- any other differences with respect to a normal insurance agency

I’m only in the research phase at this point. Tips from current franchise owners, specifically fast-food are the MOST welcome.

I am working with a franchise consultant who is recommending that I purchase a check cashing franchise with a company called Family Financial Centers. I have never owned a franchise before. I would like to find out from current franchisees of this or other companies how much investment of their personal time is necessary and what kind of net profit are you making per year. Family Financial Centers is a new business (3 years) so I’m concerned that there is no long term track record of it’s profitability.

I buy the game today and go to see how EA has done the franchise mode this year, and I see there basically isn’t one. All you do is manage your roster and go through the season, there’s no upgrading the stadium, setting prices, or anything that remotely resembled the past addictive franchise modes. I also hate how they’ver revamped the list of players. It is so much more complicated to do anything on franchise in 08 than there ever was in 07. Your thoughts?
